It’s no secret that food poverty is a major issue in the UK, with a whopping 8.4 million people struggling to put food on the table at home.
Many might find themselves going without breakfast — the most important meal of the day — with some children going to school hungry.
Morrisons is hoping to do their part to help those in need this summer, as the supermarket has teamed up with Kellogg’s to launch breakfast clubs in all of its cafés nationwide.
The club is open to anyone and everyone (adults and children alike), you simply need to ask staff for a Kellogg’s breakfast in any of the 398 Morrisons cafés.
As part of this, you’ll be able to choose from a free bowl of iconic Kellogg’s cereal such as Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, or Coco Pops, with either dairy or non-dairy milk.
Customers can also enjoy a free portion of fruit with their breakfast, including apples, oranges, bananas, and pears.
The breakfast club will run all day, every day from July 15 to August 4 while stocks last, helping families as the summer holidays begin and many subsidised breakfast clubs are unavailable.
It follows new research commissioned by Kellogg’s which found that 45% of parents are worried about the cost of feeding their children during the time off school.
A fifth of parents said that if their child was to receive a free breakfast, they would use the money they saved on groceries to pay for utility bills, as this is one of the next biggest financial concerns they have.
Chris Strong, Morrisons Café senior buying manager, said: ‘We understand the crucial role breakfast plays in the well-being and success of children. By offering free breakfasts in our cafés, we aim to support families through the summer holidays when many breakfast clubs they rely on during term time are not available.’
And Chris Silcock, Kellanova (the company that owns Kellogg’s) managing director, added: ‘We have been providing school breakfast clubs with food and funding for over 25 years now, but we know that there is a need for more support outside of term time. The Kellogg’s Breakfast scheme with Morrisons extends this much needed support for families to the summer holidays.’
This comes after Morrisons recently launched a series of free meals in its cafés in the last year. These include the ‘Ask for Ellen’ and ‘Ask for Henry’ campaigns.
Most recently, customers were able to claim a free jacket potato topped with Heinz Cheesy Beanz when they told staff the codeword ‘Henry’ at the till. No questions asked.
These schemes have since ended, but the supermarket is still running its Kids Eat Free promotion in stores. One kids’ meal can be redeemed for free with any adult main meal costing over £5.
The offer is available every day, seven days a week for any child aged under 16 in Morrisons cafés nationwide.
The supermarket also made headlines last week as it announced a new range in store to rival, Aldi’s Specialbuys and the Middle of Lidl.
Morrisons When It’s Gone It’s Gone, will offer lower prices on any similar items in the market, ideally with a staggering 50% or above saving for customers.
Shoppers can expect to find an extensive range of discounted items, including cookware (including branded items such as Kitchen Aid, Green Pan, Mauviel), toys (including licensed such as Barbie, Peppa Pig, Bluey), homeware and electricals, household, food and drink, health and beauty, outdoor and garden, car care and travel.
The supermarket is also working on themed weeks, such as camping week or back to school.
