In a dramatic turn of events, Rebel Wilson is being sued by the producers of her directorial debut, “The Deb,” just days after she publicly accused them of misconduct on social media. On July 10, Wilson, 44, took to Instagram to post a detailed video alleging “bad behavior” from producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and executive producer Vince Holden. According to Rebel Wilson, her complaints were met with “absolute viciousness and retaliatory behavior,” and she further accused the producers of blocking the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The lawsuit, filed by Ghost, Cameron, and Holden, claims defamation and seeks to hold Wilson accountable for what they describe as an attempt to “bully” them into meeting her “unreasonable demands.” The producers argue that Wilson’s statements, accusing them of embezzling funds and engaging in inappropriate behavior on set, are baseless and have caused irreparable damage to their reputations. They depict Wilson as someone who portrays herself as a champion for female artists but in reality, according to them, acts as a bully to promote her own interests.

The legal action against Wilson also references previous controversies, including allegations she made in her memoir, “Rebel Rising,” about inappropriate conduct by her “Grims by” co-star Sacha Baron Cohen. Although Cohen is not mentioned in the current lawsuit, the producers suggest a pattern of behavior where Wilson makes unsubstantiated claims.

The producers also cite an incident involving a young artist, Hannah Reilly, whom Wilson allegedly awarded a scholarship to develop “The Deb” screenplay. They claim Wilson became upset when she did not receive full writing credit for the project, leading to further disputes. According to the lawsuit, Wilson retaliated by reviving fictitious stories of sexual harassment and embezzlement against Ghost and Cameron.

In response to the lawsuit, Rebel Wilson posted multiple Instagram stories vehemently denying the allegations and asserting that she has 200 witnesses from the cast and crew to support her claims. She criticized the producers for trying to bury the film and accused them of retaliatory behavior since she reported their misconduct. “It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH!” she wrote, sharing photos of herself with the film’s production team.

Wilson expressed her frustration over “The Deb” being pulled from TIFF, describing the producers’ decision as devastating. She reiterated her accusations of inappropriate behavior towards the lead actress and embezzlement, emphasizing the financial strain it caused on the small-budget film.

The producers, however, contend that Wilson’s conduct on set was unprofessional. They accuse her of refusing to collaborate, being absent for months, and making unauthorized disclosures about the film. They argue that their decision to withdraw “The Deb” from TIFF was influenced by the ongoing disputes instigated by Wilson over credits and licensing.

In the defamation suit, filed in the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County, the producers aim to address the damage they claim Wilson’s statements have caused. They allege that Wilson used her social media platform to spread malicious and false information to her 11 million followers, thereby attempting to coerce them into meeting her demands.

As the legal battle unfolds, Wilson remains defiant, continuing to share her side of the story on social media and insisting on her professionalism and dedication to the project. The conflict between Wilson and the producers of “The Deb” highlights the complexities and high stakes involved in the film industry, especially when allegations of misconduct and professional disputes arise.
