This ‘spectacular’ Nottingham flat with ‘cave cinema’ could be yours for £300k

Fancy your own cave apartment? (Picture: FHP Living)

If you’re sick of paying through the nose to see a new film, this flat – complete with a ‘cave cinema’ – could be the ideal property for you.

While this lower ground apartment in Nottingham has been on the market since February, the price has recently been slashed by its current owners, and is now priced at £300,000.

Given that it’s on the lower ground floor, the apartment does give off vampiric vibes – perfect for a horror movie marathon, if that’s your thing. There’s also a dramatic stone staircase leading down to the cave, which is arguably the ideal place to be during the summer months.

Alongside space for a huge TV and an array of comfy seating options, there’s also a wine cooler, presumably to keep your cinematic beverages at an optimum temperature.

It isn’t all just cave vibes in here, though: winding back up the stairs, you’ll find a large living room with an office space, curved ceilings, a feature column and light-changing LED strips for added ambience. Very chic.

Likewise, if you need extra space to relax, the bathroom hosts an opulent Jacuzzi spa bath and, brace yourself cinephiles, another TV. It’s wall-to-wall content in here.

The asking price might seem relatively cheap, but according to figures from the Office For National Statistics (ONS), the average property price in Nottingham was £188,000 in March 2024 – over £100,000 less than the figures for this listing.

By comparison, figures from Zoopla placed averages in the UK at £264,300 in April 2024 – still less than this asking price.

The last time this property was for sale in December 2020, it was marketed with a slightly higher price tag of £325,000.

‘FHP Living are thrilled to be able to offer to the market this truly stunning, two bedroom apartment located in St. Mary’s Gate House,’ the Rightmove listing reads.

‘This spectacular tri-plex apartment offers a mixture of city centre convenience, modern fittings and beautiful architecture.’

But it isn’t just a Flintstones-style ‘cave’ complex this listing offers: it’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment described as being in ‘a league of its own,’ with an ‘ample amount of secret storage,’ ‘beautiful curved ceilings’ and ‘two separate entrances.’

It also holds historical relevance, as it’s located inside St Mary’s Gate House, which was originally constructed as the French Consulate (specifically for the Vice Consul of France) in Nottingham in 1989.

And before that, in 1868, the building was used as a lace warehouse, which was the main trade at the time in the city’s Lace Market district.

So, if you want to live your best cave life and retreat from reality with constant cinematic magic, then this could be the investment for you.
