It’s been an exciting week in the world of fast food — from a bakery chain hailed as ‘better than Greggs’ announcing new openings, to US favourite Wendy’s adding four new items to its UK menu.

And now in another exciting turn of events, iconic burger joint Shake Shack has shared its own big news, and it’s bound to thrill fans.

The chain, which currently has 15 restaurants in the UK, plus several delivery-only kitchens, has revealed it’s going to be launching a permanent breakfast menu here for the first time.

Previously, breakfast has only ever been available in the UK at Gatwick Airport, so only those who had made their way through security ahead of jetting off were able to try it.

As well as the three breakfast burgers already offered at Gatwick (the Sausage, Egg N’ Cheese, Bacon, Egg N’ Cheese, and the Egg N’ Cheese) the menu will feature two brand new items — the Wake Up Shack, a beast of a burger comprised of griddled egg, applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, tater tots and Shack breakfast sauce, as well as Breakfast Tots (crispy potatoes) served with the breakfast Shack sauce.

A selection of coffee will also be available to order made using Volcano Coffee Work beans, for those who need a caffeine hit.

However, there is a big catch.

For now, the breakfast menu will only be available at two Shake Shack locations in the UK: Canary Wharf and Mansion House, both of which are in London.

However, the chain says it does have plans to launch breakfast at all of its UK locations in the future. So keep your eyes peeled for that!

The new menu launches at Canary Wharf and Mansion House Shake Shacks on Tuesday, April 2, and breakfast will then be served at both daily from 8am until 10:45am.

To celebrate the launch, the two restaurants will be offering free Breakfast Tots to the first 100 guests, with no purchase necessary. Meanwhile, for those who order a breakfast burger in-store, a complimentary coffee will also be offered from April 2 to April 7.

This follows a successful breakfast trial at the Mansion House restaurant back in 2018.

In other Shake Shack news, the chain has just revealed its going to be opening a new location in St Pancras International, home to the Eurostar, in early summer 2024.

For those looking for other fast food breakfast options, the team at Metro.co.uk recently tried the new Popeyes breakfast menu and were very impressed.

Highlights on the breakfast menu include the Big Cajun Breakfast Roll, the Cajun Hash Brown, and biscuits with Nutella — which are like a scone, but lighter and creamier thanks to the buttermilk they’re made with.

Lifestyle reporter Gregory Robinson dubbed the Cajun hash brown the ‘best hash brown [he’d] ever had’, while first-person and opinions editor Jess Austin gave it a 10/10 rating and claimed she could happily eat one every single day for the rest of her life.

Meanwhile, the Big Cajun Breakfast roll was deemed a must-try. Lifestyle reporter, and specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin added: ‘McDonald’s, I love you and your Breakfast Roll, but my foodie heart now officially belongs to another. I was already a big fan of the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, but this offering has well and truly tipped the scales in their favour.

‘The Cajun ketchup is what makes this really special. It adds unique flavour that you don’t get from any other fast food breakfast order. If you love a breakfast sandwich, you need to try this ASAP.’
