Dogs arrived with bunny ears, Easter-themed t-shirts and even lacy tutus Saturday for the Morton Grove Park District’s annual doggie egg hunt. Some of their owners donned bunny ears and other festive gear to add to the merriment, despite temperatures in the 30s that had many of the dogs shivering.

Many of the dog owners and families arrived well before the 1:30 p.m. start time of the egg hunt, giving them time to pose for photos with the Easter bunny, and giving the dogs time to sniff other dogs.

At start time, Sue Braubach, superintendent of recreation for the park district, started ushering the dogs and owners through a balloon arch in springtime colors and lining them up next to a field strewn with brightly-colored plastic eggs filled with dog treats.

Upon the signal to start, dogs rushed forward, and when they touched an egg with their noses, that was the signal for owners to place that egg in a basket.

The hunt was on, and though it was all over in a matter of minutes, dogs went home with baskets of springtime treats.
